A targeted collection of exploratory exercises from English 1040, demonstrating growth in research methods, professional communication, source evaluation, and genre analysis within the golf management industry.

Short Assignment 1
My first short essay assignment for English 1040 was to familiarize myself with the syllabus and the expectations for the course this semester. I learned that this class needs more than just writing essays. It improves skills like research communication critical thinking, organization, and revising skills. It also discusses eight habits of mind including curiosity, creativity, persistence, responsibility, flexibility, and reflection that are helpful in becoming a better writer.
I also found out about the various assignments required during the semester, such as weekly discussion posts, short assignments, major papers, and the final ePortfolio. One of the largest assignments needs researching a career field related to my major, which allows me to explore my interest in the golf industry.
I believe another component of the syllabus, that I thought should be mentioned, was how participation, homework completion and a positive attitude toward revising work can impact your success in the class. This assignment overall has taught me exactly what I need to do to find success in English 1040. It also has helped me understand how the writing and communication skills learned in this class can serve me in my future career and life as well.

Short assignment 2
In my second short assignment for English 1040, I have researched what it takes to get into marketing and the skills to be successful in the industry. I used the AMA and the BLS to find out what kind of education you need, what the job opportunities are, and what communication is necessary in marketing.
One of the main things I discovered is that marketing covers much more than just advertising. It involves creativity, problem-solving, research, technology, and analytical abilities. I also found that earning a bachelor's degree and gaining experience through internships can help someone get ready for a career in marketing.
It was also important to learn about the different uses of writing in marketing. Whereas in English we learn about writing for our audience and analysis, in marketing I came to understand how advertising reports websites and advertisements are used to influence and persuade people.
In general, this coursework has served to boost my skills in researching, and to help me realize the value of professional and business communication. It has also demonstrated to me how the marketing area can be a blend of business and creativity, which might be extremely beneficial in many different industries such as the golf industry.

Short Assignment 3
The third short assignment that I used for English 1040 was about making an annotated bibliography on PGA Golf Management and the golf industry. This assignment consisted of six different sources that I researched that could be journal articles, a book, PGA information and good reports on the golf industry. The purpose was to get some solid information to learn the business end of the game.
One major takeaway was realizing that working in the golf industry involves much more than simply playing or teaching golf. My research included areas like customer service, golf course management marketing tournament operations, and career opportunities. I also discovered how essential customer satisfaction and communication are to successfully managing a golf facility.
Another important part of this assignment was learning how to evaluate sources and explain why each one was useful for my research. Instead of just collecting information, I had Basically each source and connect it to my future career interests.
In general, this assignment made me a stronger thinker because I was able to learn research skills, reading skills, and college level thinking. It also helped me understand the career options in the PGA Golf Management profession, as well as prepared me for future writing assignments.

Short Assignment 4
This is my fourth short assignment for English 1040, the most recent being a comparison of two forms of writing I researched and studied within the PGA Golf Management industry. The first was an academic-based research article about golfer motivation, engagement, and media called "Driving Engagement" and the second was a PGA of America article titled "6 Steps to Find a Career in Golf" which talked through various career options for golfers in the golf industry.
One of the biggest things I learned was how writing changes according to its purpose and audience. The academic article used research, statistics, and formal language to explain its findings, while the PGA article was more straightforward and focused on providing useful career information. I also learned about rhetorical appeals like ethos and logos and how writers use credibility and evidence to support their ideas.
This assignment helped me develop my skills at analyzing writing, rather than just reading for information. I learned to pay closer attention to the author's purpose, intended audience, and writing style.
In general, this assignment has demonstrated to me the significance of sound communication in golf management. And, it has provided me with an opportunity to boost the skills of critical thinking and rhetorical analysis that I will need in school and work.
