Major writing projects
A showcase of in-depth research, professional inquiry, and rhetoric developed throughout English 1040. Each project bridges academic scholarship with real-world communication in the golf industry.

Project Overview
For my first major project in English 1040, I researched what is necessary to create a successful career in the golf business. This project involved reading and learning about skills, jobs, and ways of communicating that a person needs to become a golf pro. I examined the writing, research, and communication skills that golf professionals need in their daily work, whether they own golf courses, run golf tournaments, work with clients, or communicate with coworkers.
This assignment was notably to me because I love the game of golf and plan on a future in that industry. It was a chance for me to relate some of the writing done in college to the thing I may want to do some day.

What I Learned About Professional Communication
One of the main things I discovered from this project was the significance of communication in the golf industry. Before looking into this subject, I mostly considered the golf expertise and playing skills required to become a professional. Still, I found that abilities in writing and speaking are equally important.
Golf professionals often correspond with members, customers, employees, and managers. They might send emails to members, develop golf tournaments, write reports or explain policies or rules. This research project was a learning process for me, as I realized that a career in the golf industry needs knowledge of the game of golf, professionalism, and strong communications skills.

How Research Improved My Writing
Research played an important role in finishing this project. I looked for information about careers in golf and learned how professionals use writing in their jobs. I focused on finding useful sources, identifying key information, and connecting my research to the main purpose of my paper.
What I learned to do better One thing I learned to do better was to put information in my own words instead of copying what someone had said. Also, I learned that I should support my ideas with examples and proof. These skills from research made my writing better.

Organization and Revision
Another key aspect of this assignment was improving how I organized my ideas. Initially, it was difficult to figure out how to bring together all the different information about the golf industry in one paper. I focused on dividing my ideas into distinct sections and ensuring that each paragraph addressed a particular topic.
Revision was also beneficial in reinforcing my writing. As I revised my paper, I would consider my paper and pinpoint sentences that would be more elucidated, fix any leaping between paragraphs, and eliminate redundant information. I realized that revision extends far beyond editing your paper for grammar. It is also a step in the paper to ensure that your essay is effectively communicating ideas to the reader.

Final Reflection
In general, this big assignment has helped me as a student and as a writer. This assignment has not only made me more knowledgeable about a potential career, but it has also assisted me in gaining skills that I can use in other classes and even in the future outside of class for example in English 1040.
The most important lesson I learned from doing this project is that writing skills are applicable to many careers and disciplines, golf being one of them. I've come to realize that what I've learned about writing in college will prepare me for this career.
